Anastasia Belcher signed letter envelope with artwork

Two teenage girls convicted of killing the mother of one of them in 2004 and trying to hide her body by covering it with garbage, burning it and finally burying it in the back yard will serve a combined 50 years in prison.

Naakisha Waddell, 15, was given a 70-year sentence with 35 years suspended in Wythe County Circuit Court on Thursday for her part in the death of her mother, Vaughne Thomas, 42, of Max Meadows. Anastasia Belcher, 16, of Fort Chiswell, was sentenced to 26 years' detention with 11 years suspended for her role in the crime. Belcher and Waddell took the stand for the first time in the case on Thursday and offered significantly different stories about the events that led to Thomas' death.

The letter and envelope are both handwritten. The letter is signed, Annie. There is artwork on the front of the envelope.
