John "Sonny" Franzese, Sr. (born February 6, 1917) is a powerful Italian-American mobster who is a longtime member of the Colombo crime family. Franzese's career in organized crime spans over eight decades and he is the former underboss of the Colombo crime family. At the time of his release on June 23, 2017, he was the oldest federal prisoner in the United States and the only centenarian in federal custody. Franzese is currently the oldest living gangster in the world. Arguably, Franzese has been famous as the current oldest member of the American Mafia. Franzese is listed as an associate producer of the 2002 film This Thing of Ours, which stars James Caan. He also helped finance the $22,000 pornographic film Deep Throat which generated $30–50 million dollars, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a horror film which earned over $30 million from a $300,000.

The letter and envelope are both handwritten. The letter is signed, Sonny.
